The Ute Pass Symphony Guild organized in 1979 for the purpose of funding concerts by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra. The all – volunteer board wrote letters, made phone calls and went door-to-door to raise the then substantial sum of $5,000. The basics have not changed, ensuring that the Symphony Above the Clouds remains a vital part of the area’s summer celebration.
After nearly 45 years we’re still an all volunteer board whose mission is very simple – to bring high quality music to the people of the Teller County region and to provide an admission free summer concert each year in July. The Woodland Park Wind Symphony has been our headliner orchestra since 2022 a and continues to make the Symphony Above the Clouds concert one of the best signature events in Woodland Park.
This year, for the first time in our history, the Guild is partnering with the City of Woodland Park’s Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration! Our annual concert will take place in Memorial Park following the City event. Vendors, food truck and beverage partners who participate in the daytime celebration will stay into the evening to provide a fun, family event for concert goers. We are very excited about this change and look forward to a new experience!
The Ute Pass Symphony Guild does not limit its activities to just that concert, however. We raise funds and provide classroom support so that all the children in Teller County can attend the annual Children’s Concert at the Pikes Peak Center performed by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra – without cost to the school district or the students. We feel strongly that at a time when school district budgets have little room for extras, it is incumbent upon us to try to fill that void where possible.
